As soon as the front door opened, the bright sun made it hard to see anything, since Sylas's eyes had adjusted to the dark restaurant. He used his right hand to shield his eyes as he walked out into the street. Sylas was glad that this street was one of the less populated ones, as he did not want any collateral damage in this fight. The very few people that were shuffling about, were smart enough to scram once Lydia walked out of the restaurant. There were many stories about the ruthlessness of the Chevallier Assassin Twins. As Sylas reached the middle of the street, he turned around and faced Lydia with his hands up, for he knew her sword was pointed at him as she followed behind. "Hey, can't we talk about th-" Sylas started, before dashing backward with a gust of wind, while simultaneously launching a sickle shaped wind blade at Lydia's face. He knew it wasn't going to work, but he didn't want her to get the first move. He also thought maybe he would get lucky and catch her off guard possibly. With a lazy flick her of wrist, her katana blocked the spell, causing the wind to merely blow her hair back slightly. "Cute." Lydia smirked and held her sword in both hands in front of her, ready to make her move. "You just keep giving me more reasons to want to kill you." With her powerful legs, she kicked off the ground and threw herself at Sylas, raising her sword to prepare to cut him in half. She was incredibly fast, so much so that Sylas barely had time to react. As she came in, Sylas jumped and vaulted over Lydia, high enough to avoid the tip of her sinister blade. Instead of landing behind her, Sylas floated in place while Lydia turned around and adjusted her stance for the next attack. "Flying will not save you, Sylas." She spat, as she aimed her sword at the man.
Sylas didn't know much about Lydia's sword, but the way it glowed and the aura it gave off, made Sylas know it was dangerous. He was also smart enough to not float in same spot if someone points something at him. He zigzagged around in the air, making him a harder target for her. He didn't have much he could do to fight back currently, so defense was going to be his best offense for now. He figured maybe he could tire her out if he could stay alive. Lydia closed her eyes and muttered something under her breath, before raising her sword once more. Her body then began to take on the same red glow as the blade. The katana had given her some sort of power. Whatever it was, Sylas knew it wasn't good. Lydia exploded forward with incredible speed, running up to the nearest building, jumping off of its wall, and throwing herself at Sylas where he was in mid air. She was so fast that Sylas only had time to raise his right hand to launch a funnel in her general direction. Fortunately it was enough to throw off her trajectory and speed, so Lydia sliced past him, catching his left shoulder in a glancing blow. Lydia landed gracefully on the ground while Sylas clutched his new wound. Any deeper, and he could have lost the thing.
"Alright, alright. Let's actually talk about stuff this time." Sylas said, as he watched the blood drip from his arm. Lydia laughed in response, wasting no words on the man. She examined her blade and licked the fresh blood off of it. A sigh of pleasure escaped her lips as she turned her focus back on Sylas. She was going to drain him dry when she caught him. Sylas knew things were not going to go well for him at this rate. Although, he knew this was a losing battle before it even started. Sylas looked to Leo, who he really didn't want to have caught up in this, but Sylas enjoyed living and would prefer to stay that way. "Uh Leo, you are a decent fighter right? Help a buddy out." He hoped he wouldn't regret saying that.
As soon as they exited the restaurant, he saw people start to filter out of the already uncrowded street. They either had some sort of sixth sense, unlikely, or Lydia was known throughout the city. Given her appearance at Florence's Bounty, Leo reasoned it was the latter. For an entire populace to be aware of her notoriety, though, apparently Sylas really did have a troubled past, or at least compared to the mild one he had previously hinted at. As he made the first move, it quickly became obvious who held the upper hand in the fight. Unfortunately, Leo's instincts had been correct. And based on the woman's speed, his usual wouldn't be enough to beat her. Had he been in Sylas’s position, he likely would have ran, but it seemed that the feud between the two ran deeper than mere survival and business.
While the man was coordinated and his magic an automatic thought, it was not enough to counter Lydia's implementation of oppressive force. It seemed to be granted to her by her katana, perhaps disarming her would prove effective? Then again, while her movements were flashy it was obvious she was well versed in swordplay, although her grand cuts and strikes were not exactly the best way to deal with a wind mage, at least in his own personal opinion. Regardless, he didn't have a whole lot of time to observe her fighting style before the battle began to truly turn south. As first blood was drawn, Leo had already made up his mind about interceding, however before he could do so Sylas requested it.
"Sure. Stay back, though, I don't want to hurt you in the collateral."
He only hoped the man would listen. Whilst Lydia enjoyed the stalking of her prey, he removed his blazer, the article of clothing replaced with Calamitas gripped in his right hand. Its jagged blade extended outward to an abyssal point, Leo wasted no time as shadows clung to his steps, drawing his sword upward, pointed directly at the woman with his other hand moving onto its hilt. The only way he could possibly get the upper hand was if he struck before she had the chance to realize what he was capable of, Sylas had certainly tried the same to little effect, but then again, his combat skills were evidently a bit lacking. With that in mind, even as he closed the distance a thin line protruded from Calamitas, exploding into a sphere of darkness as it either made contact with its intended target or the ground below her. Regardless, Leo was engulfed as well, although the black energy merely flowed over him, devouring everything else in its path. He hoped Sylas had heeded his warning, well really such considerations were beginning to slip away from his grasp, replaced by the intoxicating thrill of facing the opponent before him. The bindings on his arms had most certainly been torn away, his gaze reverted back to the deep crimson of his past. Not that Leo paid attention to such, though, they were nothing more than minute details drowned by the overwhelming thirst that flooded his mind.
Vokius - 5 Reaching out to the void that had long ago devoured most of Calamitas’s blade, Leo is capable of reforming a shadowy replica of it which appears to have an almost indefinite edge, although this is far from the case as the darkness takes on a durability identical to the rest of the sword itself. Lengthening Calamitas altogether to 45", every strike with the extended part of the blade also deals severe damage to whoever or whatever the target may be, excluding Leo himself. Duration of 4 posts, cooldown of 2 posts. Alternatively, Leo may choose to simply form the blade itself without additional damage, in which case Vokius has an infinite duration, although once dismissed it still endures a cooldown of 2 posts. First option used.
Svifagryn - 2 Accelerating through shadows, Leo is capable of dashing up to 10 meters away at an additional 20 Speed comparative to the value of the statistic at any given moment. This dash is situational in categorization, and can be used once per post.
Pytsphaira - 5 Forming a condensed umbral sphere a few inches from a point on his person - whether it be a weapon, finger, or similar - Leo can fire such in a straight line of dark energy, continuing on for up to 120 meters. Upon contact with something, Pytsphaira will explode, dealing severe damage to the target and all within the blast radius of 20 meters, although if extended to its maximum range only serious damage will be dealt to those between 10 and 20 meters from the impact. Cooldown of 2 posts.
Fortunately for Sylas, Leo was indeed a competent fighter. Sylas watched as the man lept into action, almost literally given the speed that he moved with. With a nod, the thief moved backwards as fast as he could, even using his wind to boost his movements. Sylas hung in the air and watched Leo work, heeding his warning to stay out of the way. Leo's dark magic made Sylas chuckle to himself. "Of course I would get help from someone wielding darkness. I never seem to run into the goody good types." He was just glad that Lydia had changed her focus off of himself, and on to Leo now. In fact, in the moment the two men swapped positions, Lydia had already turned her head to face Leo, and looked at him with a sly grin. The look sent a chill down Sylas's spine.
"You seem more interesting to play with anyway." Lydia said, as she quickly glanced at the incoming magic. Sylas didn't know much about the blood twins magic, but he did know that their senses were extremely heightened, to the point where sneaking up on them, or trying to blindside them was nearly impossible. Sylas sighed to himself. He hated those twins. Instead of evading the incoming attack, Lydia merely stood still and held her sword in front of her. As the dark magic connected with her, engulfing the two fighters, Lydia laughed. The swordswoman dashed forward with incredible speed, and swung her sword in diagonal motion, attempting to cleave Leo. Behind the mage, was left a rapidly decaying mass of dark red matter. She had used her blood magic to protect herself from the spell, and charged through it unharmed.
Lydia wasn't done with her attack after just one swing. Should Leo block the strike, or evade it while staying in Lydia's general range, she would attempt to follow up with a flurry of slashes. Should Leo leave her range, Lydia would stay where she stood, watching and waiting for her next opening, and reacting to whatever came next. Sylas didn't plan on staying still and just watching however. Raising his hand, Sylas launched a compressed ball of air at Lydia, aiming for her back, hoping to help Leo get his own opening. "Kick her ass, Leo." Sylas said, following his first spell up with another funnel of wind, hoping to throw her off balance.

No, she was too quick. Leo cursed under his breath; the best thing he could do was to stall her long enough so that Sylas could slip away. But unfortunately, although the man was wise enough to give the fight a wide girth, he did not seem to be fleeing entirely. He didn't need to look away to know such, however, and hadn't. It was a good thing, too, for Lydia wasted no time in a counterattack. Leo just barely managed to catch her slash in a bind, although it did not last long as her raw strength far exceeded his own. That was going to be a problem, because he didn't have a notable advantage either. As she dolled out a flurry with her katana he was thrown off kilter, one strike cutting through his guard and into his shoulder.
He winced, retreating in a dark flash as deep crimson blood poured out of the wound. There was no way Leo could defeat her in a mere sword fight, but perhaps if she were distracted... that was the only alternative to what he truly wanted, yes. Maintaining his grip on Calamitas, although certainly his left arm was in considerable pain, three knives that had previously been concealed on his person were coated in shadows, and as Sylas flung his wind in Lydia's direction so too did the blades assail her from three different angles. However, Leo did not charge immediately that time, instead he slammed his sword into the ground, pavement flying up from where abyssal rifts had been formed, racing toward Lydia. He then flipped over Calamitas, drawing it from the earth and utilizing said momentum to come at her with a downward cleave. Regardless of whether or not any of their combined efforts landed, however, Leo then addressed Sylas between his drawn breath.
"It was nice talking to you, Sylas, now get the fuck out of here!" If he didn't listen, well, then any further consequences wouldn't be Leo's fault, would they? Certainly, though, authorities had to be arriving at the site soon, if only based on the amount of property damage he had dealt at that point. Then again, he didn't know Chevallier well, and the woman before him gave off an aura of nobility that Leo was acutely aware of, whether it be official or no. Yes, what had begun as a late morning's stroll was morphing swiftly into a headache of painful proportions, or so the side of him that sought reason thought.
Svifagryn - 2 Accelerating through shadows, Leo is capable of dashing up to 10 meters away at an additional 20 Speed comparative to the value of the statistic at any given moment. This dash is situational in categorization, and can be used once per post.
Endrnimanz - 5 By wreathing an object in shadows, Leo is capable of levitating it with his mind, travelling at a maximum Speed and Power of 50. He can influence up to 5 non-living objects this way, though their total weight cannot exceed 70 kilograms, neither can items opponents possess that are A-class or greater be manipulated. Once they are 25 meters away, any items fall out of the reach of his dominion. Endrimanz has a duration of 4 posts, and a cooldown of 2 posts.
Eretheos - 5 Making contact with the ground, whether it be directly or through a weapon enchanted with Eretheos that is not more than 50 meters away, Leo is capable of shattering the surface with black, slicing energy. Forming a cone with an angle of 60°, a length of 40 meters, and a height of 20 meters, severe damage is dealt to all within the area - those with a Toughness less than or equal to 50 being thrown off their feet. Cooldown of 2 posts.
Despite the warning, and the wound Leo received, Sylas couldn't bring himself to leave the man. It was his own fault that he was caught up in this fight to begin with. Lydia came for his own head, not Leo's. Sylas knew how powerful the woman was, but he dragged this random man into danger anyway. He cursed to himself under his breath. He was foolish and cowardly to have caused this. There was no way he could leave this fight without it being settled. The only problem with him staying was that he was too weak to really put up much of a fight against Lydia. Not only did he know her due to relation, but the stories regarding her prowess were numerous. To make things worse, whenever Lydia was sent on a job, her twin brother Valentine was usually there as well. While Lydia was made out to be the worse of the two, any further trouble would completely overwhelm the two struggling mages. On top of that, Sylas knew Valentine sometimes snapped and became sadistic. If this was the end for Sylas, he would prefer a quick end by Lydia's blade, rather than having Valentine slowly torture him to death. Sylas began to think to himself that he wished that he was born to a different family. The Chevalliers were crazy.
In the wake of the combined assault of Leo's magic and Syla's small distraction, a cloud of debris was swept up, covering Lydia completely and obscuring the effect of the attack. Surely it had to do something to the woman. She was strong, but not invincible. Sylas didn't see her leave the area of the attack, so somehow blocking it all was her only option. With a powerful swing of her crimson blade, Lydia cleared the dust away from her, revealing that for the most part, she was indeed just fine and dandy after the attack. The only damage she seemed to have taken was a gash on her left thigh. She grinned menacingly at Leo, impressed that he managed to land a hit on her. "That kind of hurt." She laughed, looking down at the her bleeding wound. She then briefly closed her eyes and held her blade in both hands, pointing the blade upward and bringing it close to her face. It looked almost like she was meditating. The glow of her blade dimmed slightly, and a red aura surrounded her wound. Within seconds, the laceration was closed and all traces of damage aside from drying blood, had been erased. "That's better. Now, where were we?" Lydia pointed her blade at Leo, and then shifted into a combat stance, spreading her feet apart and raising the blade above her head, while keeping the point forward. "Now it is my turn."
Sylas starred incredulously at the woman. She was a monster. Any damage they do to her, she was just going to heal. How could they beat her? He had heard Leo's second warning, but just like the first, Sylas couldn't go along with it. He refused to leave the man here alone with Lydia. In fact, Sylas was thinking that at this point, getting Leo out of this situation was his main goal. He got the man into this, and he would get him out. As his mind raced, he watched as Lydia charged forward at Leo with incredible speed. As she ran, the blood that came from her prior leg wound, had begun to move. It pooled together and formed two long blades that detached from her body and floated next to her. As she swung her sword at Leo, attempted to behead the man, the blood blades swung at him as well, aiming for his torso to bisect him. "LEO NOOOOOOOO!" Sylas screamed, as he flew forward as fast as he could, boosting himself with a final exertion of magic, using up all he had. He didn't care what happened next, as long as he could get in the way in time.
Normally, he wouldn't have given the enemy a chance to pause, but the pain from Lydia's blow lingered, and she wasn't the only one who gained from a moment's respite. Evidently, though, Sylas had ignored his advice. The idiotic child was going to get himself killed, that much was almost certain. As a matter of fact, in those few seconds Leo had already begun to calculate the probability of escape for himself, there were a few dark alleys nearby, if he could just manage to close the distance within time then perhaps he could get away from the woman's range of influence; she wasn't directly targeting him anyway. That was only a last resort, however, and no expression betrayed his facade, at least in that respect. One corner of his mouth couldn't help but curl up in a sloppy grin despite himself. "I have to admit that is rather annoying," Leo muttered, wiping away a trickle of blood at his lip. A symptom of a more dire concern than his injury that was already beginning to knit back together, yes, but there was nothing that could be done about it for the moment.
As her stance shifted so too did his own, pommel of Calamitas drawn back toward his hip as he assumed the plow guard. He barely had time to think as Lydia charged, didn't exactly register Sylas's words nor his approach. No, such concerns were thrust aside for a myriad of reasons, the threat of death being just one of them. As her blood pooled into two additional blades, so too did the knives the woman had carelessly discarded beforehand come racing back toward her, one opposing Lydia herself while the other two moved to counter her magic. They shattered in the process, but managed to at least spare Leo an additional second of time as one instead only sliced across his abdomen, not through it. At the same time, his sword had broken her lethal attack, catching it only for a brief moment before he used the force she had put behind the blow to pivot under it, momentarily putting him out of her immediate striking range.
From there, blind pain and rage drove him. Leo's left hand moved upon toward the sky, and from there darkness rapidly accumulated, pulling in all it could manage to grasp. In a great heave of effort, the cyclone was brought down upon Lydia, a last ditch effort to halt her onslaught. His breath was ragged, vision swimming from either rapid exhaustion or loss of blood, he wasn't entirely sure. Indeed, the narrow street that bisected the road was looking awfully tempting at that moment, Leo knew well enough that the battle could not go on any longer without a serious consequence to be had.
Styrsenzan - 5 Summoning a cyclone of destructive magic up to 40 meters high with a radius of up to 5 meters in one hand, Leo is capable of bringing such down in a single direction or targeting the skies directly, dealing severe damage to all those caught inside the whip-like darkness. All things aside from himself within a 30 meter radius of the vortex with a Power less than or equal to 50 will also be pulled toward Styrsenzan, beings closer to such threshold being less impacted than those not. The technique has a duration of 1 post, and a cooldown of 2.
Time had seemed to slow down for Sylas. Not just for the world, but for him as well. He moved slowly through the air, flying towards Leo and Lydia as they clashed, praying he would make it in time to protect the man that he bumped into on the street a mere hour or two ago. He knew he couldn't do much, but if he could just block maybe one attack, he could give Leo a chance to end it. He knew it was a dumb idea, but there was nothing else his honor would let him do. Sure he was a thief and a street rat, but this issue came from his family, and it was something that he had to finish.
Sylas stopped in mid air, right as Lydia and Leo clashed. Their magic cancelled each other's out, leaving only their blades to meet. The sound of steel striking steel rang through the street with such intensity, that Sylas winced from the sound. Watching Lydia and Leo fight made Sylas realize just how weak he really was. He sighed to himself and promised to train even harder if he made it out of here alive today. He pictured his revenge on Lydia after he had gotten stronger. It brought a slight smile to his face, that was instantly removed by what happened next. From the area above him, a swirling mass of darkness descended. He knew it was Leo's magic, so he loosened up a little, knowing he would be alright. Unfortunately for him, he was only right about one of those things. It was indeed Leo's magic, but Sylas could feel the twister pulling him in, along with bricks, mailboxes, and street lamps. He tried to fly out of its range, but the pull of the magic was far too strong for him to resist...
Engulfed in darkness, Sylas's body was subjected to pummeling via street debris and the magic itself. Every inch of his body was assaulted by the spell as he spun around in its control. The man couldn't even let loose a scream to ask Leo to stop at this point. It was too late. The magic had done far too much damage. His last thought he had before losing consciousness was that he hoped Lydia had been caught in it as well.
Once the spell had ended, Sylas's limp body lay on the side of the street, with countless wounds spread across the poor mage. Lydia laughed as she shed yet another shell of blood. She had protected herself with a coating of her blood magic, much like before. "If your magic was just a little stronger, I might have been in trouble there." She said, taunting Leo.
"I'm sorry." Was the last thing Sylas managed to squeeze out of his crushed throat, before passing out yet again.
It was too late to stop. As the dust settled and debris tumbled down from the abyssal torrent, Leo recognized his grievous error. The young man's limp body was lying across the crumbling pavement, alive for the moment yet dying all the same. As much as a part of him wanted to tear Lydia into a thousand pieces at that very moment, that would do nothing, was impossible. He knew better than to cling to the hope that Sylas would survive, not when he was betwixt the woman and himself, easily within striking distance. Yes, even if Leo were to defeat Lydia, the wind mage was too far gone. His visage contorted, not in grief for he had barely known Sylas, but in hatred directed toward himself.
He had tried to save a man's life, to do something good, and in the end it had only gotten more blood on his hands. Whether indirectly or directly, the man's death would only be added to the countless others behind Leo, there was nothing else that could be done. He couldn't form the words to respond to Lydia's insult, for he knew she was right. What was the point, if the only thing he could do was hurt those around him, ultimately not even landing a scratch on the true threat? His struggle to wrest his magic under control was futile, if unbiased annihilation was all that resulted from it anyway. The irony was thick, in fact, by trying to help Sylas he had inadvertently assisted his assassin. There was nothing he could offer to the man himself either, an apology was only saving face when he would never be able to hear it. Nor did Leo have tears to shed, only silence, regret, shame. A boy who had possessed so much potential, wasted away. No, that implied it was natural, a result of some dim fate. There was only one person to blame.
Leo spat his own blood out onto the ground, staring at Lydia even as Calamitas reverted back to its useless form, one hand gripping his stomach in an attempt to stem the bleeding there. "What did he do?" was all he could manage, monotonous. For the moment, his legs were locked into place, unwilling to carry himself out of the scene despite logic begging him otherwise. He had no right to stay, Leo knew as much. Whether it was shock or something else, however, the alley he had previously been eyeing vanished from his perspective entirely for those sparse few seconds, only the grim reality existing before him.
Looking over at Sylas's body, Lydia smiled and turned her attention back towards Leo. "You've done my job for me it seems. As much as I would love playing with you some more, my mission is complete and I no longer need to waste my time here. You should find me when you are stronger. I was holding back the whole time, but you sure were fun anyway. Maybe if I am lucky, a mission to kill you will be given to me. See you around, cutie." Lydia blew a kiss at Leo before turning away and dashing towards a nearby alley. "You got lucky." Another voice said. It came from the same alley that Lydia had run to. It was her twin brother Valetine, who had been watching the fight from a distance, making sure the mission was going to end successfully. The twins began their trip back to the Chevallier estate to report the death of Sylas. Following them would surely end poorly.
As Sylas's body began shutting down due to the severe damage it sustained, his mind flashed images of his life. Sylas was still young and had a lot ahead of him, but this was his fate ever since he left his family. He always knew in the back of his mind that this was going to happen to him at one point or another, which is why he trained as hard as he did. Sylas could have just stayed low once abandoning the family, but instead he instigated trouble by harassing his relatives. Sylas had robbed the various powerful Chevalliers many times, painting a giant target on his back.
He got what he deserved.
His final thought before passing on, was that he was glad he died in Lower Chevallier, around people that cared about him.

A corner of his mouth twitched, the only response he gave to Lydia. Her threat fell upon deaf ears, perhaps, but it stung regardless, reverberating in some unknown cavern of his soul. Before the collateral had been nothing but a hypothetical, a fact coated in a millennium of dust and decay. However, in the presence of three strangers it had been made clear as day, and in the end a boy's misplaced trust had only resulted in death and ruin. Whatever Leo's good intentions had been, the scene painted before him was the polar opposite, the enemy walking away unharmed, untouchable by whatever meager power he had at his disposal. Maddening enough to make his days a living nightmare, useless in the grand scheme of things, it was naturally the sort of magic Leo was cursed to bear.
He slinked away from Sylas's corpse, catching a glance of a man nearly identical to Lydia in the alley parallel before he turned away, disgusted at himself. For an hour or so he wandered in the shadows of the unfamiliar city, keeping out of sight. His destination was aimless, dreading the idea of confessing to Eris, how could he? It was one thing, killing someone of his own volition, his mind failed to grasp the moral issue for it was simply life, some called it destiny although that too Leo scoffed. No, that was not the dilemma he faced, it was that his actions were beginning to slide back down the slope into his past, there was no way he could blind himself from the resemblance. It was that reality that struck terror in his heart, a battle much more than physical at play.
The wounds he had accumulated healed swiftly enough, but there was still a matter of his torn attire and the blood upon it. In the end, however, Leo didn't bother, eventually finding his way back onto Blackjack, Eris sitting at the coffee table and having woken up not long ago by the looks of it. "Are you okay?" she asked as soon as she saw him.
He lied with a nod. "Some gang tried to mug me," was all he offered, before grabbing a new shirt and changing into it, sinking into the chair across from her.
