Three days – three whole days and two complete nights since Kaelani had seen or spoken to her faithful sidekick, Jadyn, a woman in her mid-twenties with lovely ebony hair, spectacular eyes of emerald that could stop any man or beast in their tracks, and skin so delicately tanned it held an almost ethereal glow. For that time, the red-head had lounged around their apartment, casually entertaining herself in the most mundane of ways, but she hadn't paid much attention to the lack thereof Jadyn until she was sprawled out on the lavishly decorated sofa of crushed crimson velvet. As she lay there, in nothing more than a distressed t-shirt and undies, her scarlet hues fell upon the dining table which was littered with half-empty liquor bottles, seemingly uninteresting paperwork, and a sandwich that was growing a greenish substance. Narrowing her eyes, she focused more on the sandwich, realizing it wasn't anything she'd left behind, but the more she gawked at the foodstuff, the more she felt an anger boil under her alabaster skin. Of all things to leave behind, if one were to abandon anything, why a half-eaten sandwich. A goddamn sandwich. The rage grew just that much more as she forced herself to crawl off the sofa, barely able to hold herself up, and sauntered over to the table where she scrunched her nose at the sandwich.
“What a fucking slob,” she hissed hatefully, cautiously poking the molded edges with her index finger, “Couldn't even clean up after herself. Fuck her.”
And so, Kaelani angrily threw the ceramic plate against the wall, shattering the dish and disassembling the sandwich. Unfortunately, a piece of lettuce and what appeared to be hard salami, or possibly ham, stuck to the wall which only irritated her further, enough to make her throw a bottle not long afterwords. The liquid released loosened the items from the wall but only made a mess worse than what had initially been intended, enraging her even more. She yelled a slur of profanities at the wall, almost as if she were throwing a tantrum, but as she did such, Kaelani realized that she was hurt by the lack of communication from her supposed friend. Then she began to think the worst – what if she was being held captive, or what if she was dead in a gutter somewhere, or what if she was being filleted alive and crying for someone to help her. The anger was slowly transforming into angry guilt and now, she knew that she had to go in search of Jadyn. So, with swift movement, she chugged one of the bottles, rushed to her bedroom where she slipped into a pair of blue jeans and changed her shirt to that of a black tank-top, put on her boots, then headed off to Belladonna. That's where she had to be.
The Moon.
If Jadyn had been anywhere or if anyone had heard anything, this was the place to go. The safe haven for the unscrupulous sort was a gossiper's delight and they all liked to talk, especially when talk was all there was to do when consuming alcohol. It took long enough for her to get there but she didn't just allow herself to get dropped off at the front door; no, that's not how things worked. People weren't able to just stumble upon The Moon and the proprietors of such a fine establishment made sure of that. The safety, as long as one followed the unspoken, unwritten rules, was ensured which allowed the sanctity of such a place to remain. Kaelani walked a good bit of distance but while she walked, the more her anger boiled under the surface and upon finding the entrance of The Moon, she wasn't angry any longer. In fact, she was fucking pissed by this point. Kicking open the door, which was extremely anti-climatic because it was already open, she only caused a few slivers to unhinge and a loud noise as it hit the wall adjacent. Whilst there wasn't many patrons, the ones that were there made sure to lay eyes on her from the sheer disruption and surprise she caused.
“And just what the hell do you think you're doing?” a sweet but seriously upset voice called out.
Mary. The pretty barkeep that managed the place, or so Kaelani believed, stood behind the bar with a hand on her hip, looking completely unimpressed by her dramatic antics. Making a bee-line towards the woman, the Assassin slammed a fist on the bar and with a demanding voice, growled somewhat hatefully, “Where the fuck is that lazy, no-good little shit, Jadyn?”
Chuckling softly, the barkeep raised a brow, “Probably passed out by now. She's been drinking herself stupid for the past couple of days over some breakup or something, honestly, I haven't a clue what her deal is and I don't care. She paid, I went mute.”
Breathing a sigh of relief, knowing Jadyn wasn't dead or worse, Kaelani softened her stance and silently apologized to which Mary scoffed before placing a full bottle of hard liquor and two glasses in front of her.
“Don't dare pull a stunt like that again,” she smiled wickedly, waving a hand as to dismiss and went back to tending other people like nothing had happened. A few people stared while she grabbed her drink of choice and slithered off to the corner booth she always sat in, only to find someone else was occupying it. While she didn't bother to get a look at whom nor attempt to pick a fight, she merely chose to sit in the booth behind, plopping herself down with little regard for the glasses as they clanked against the wood of the table. Pouring the first drink, she downed it with no grace, simply attempting to numb herself from the humiliation she'd just incurred, and poured another, only to sip kindly on it as she read the label of the bottle before her. She thought that she would just have a few drinks before confronting Jadyn because it was necessary to calm down before doing anything drastic, especially while conflicting ideals were apparent. Even as she sipped on her drink, Kaelani's eyes continued to shift and flicker from scarlet to azure, constantly showing her inner demon's disdain for her actions, but for the moment, she attempted to relax.
