Eris merely nodded in response to Shoop's explanation, offering a shrug. "I appreciate the effort," she murmured, then falling silent.
There were more questions to be had, though, then again it seemed like there always were. "Mmm, possessed really isn't the right wording, nor is fire for that matter, but regardless, I... it's complicated. That being said, I never said we didn’t have human parents. To clarify," she looked at Shoop for a moment, still recalling the hat's earlier remark, "We are not related. Well, by a piece of paper, but that’s irrelevant to this discussion. My father was… I don’t really remember him, but he was human. As was Leo’s mother." There was an ever slight tang of malice held back as Eris spoke of her father, as if she had wanted to say something far more cruel but had bit her tongue. Not that it really mattered, not anymore, the divisions he had sown within their family had little impact when every member was dead, barring herself. Her hand fell down at her side, tracing the hilt of the shortsword secured there with a brief sigh. There was nothing that could be done.
She narrowed her eyes for a moment at Blitz's concern, offering a note of contempt as there was an ever slight curl of her lips. "Boon, more like bane, but no, it has little to do with that. His blood is also not exactly… right, it’s just far darker than normal rather than having a different pigment, so it's harder to tell. More importantly, though, the magic I have now wasn’t what I was born with, same thing with Leo. It used to be more half and half for both of us, but, ah, he got the short end of the stick. No worries, mine is pretty much completely human."
It was only as the metal mage brought it up, however, that Eris realized that he probably wasn't all for this sort of... adventure. It was a little late now, but based on what she had seen before she guessed he had taken some sort of transport to the Reich, rather than flying there in his own ship. Hopefully it was the former, at least, for that would allow for less backtracking. It normally was not a concern, of course, but Blackjack had already been complaining about using the back-up fuel for the warp drive, and there were certain to be other merry warnings along the way home. "Oh, right, sorry to drag you along, but time is of utmost importance. I can take you where you need to go once some kind of solution is reached, it's the least I can do, but for now the navicomputer is set to Stella. It’s where our doctor Maescia lives, she's a good person but can be a bit, well, irritable at times."
Shoop, ever the dapper hat, merely nodded at Eris' murmured thanks before she fell silent again.
Blitz listened as Eris explained things about herself and Leo, and between the two of them. "I figured there was a chance you weren't related, but given that you both seem to have ceased aging, I figured you guys being a couple was unlikely...if only because I feel like the dating scene for immortals is.....ever so slightly limited," Blitz said with a slight chuckle.
She mentioned that they had human parentage, but for Leo, it was his mother, while for Eris, it was her father - who, judging by the brief look that passed over her face, she wasn't on good terms with, assuming he was even still alive to begin with. He could have almost guessed it was about Leo's mother instead, if not for the slight emphasis and delay after 'my father'. Guessing some drama, but best not to salt that particular wound, Blitz thought, making a mental note for later.
She also seemed to disagree that what she inherited was in any way a 'boon', seeming to view it more as a curse of sorts, explaining that the blood was indeed inherited, and just happened to be....off, in some manner. She also said that their original magics were gone, and they had new magics now, but from the way she phrased it, the scales hadn't evened out neatly. "So you ended up with a new magic entirely? Was there something that caused your old magic to disappear, or does magic just have some sort of arcane expiration date that no one's figured out because no one with magic has lived long enough to see it happen? And if I gather what's you're saying correctly, your magic is closer to that of your human nature, while Leo's is one more suited for his father's side of the family?" Blitz asked as he got up and got a glass and filled it with ice and water from the dispenser - he was half-tempted to see if anything in the cooler was non-alcoholic, but he had a feeling that was a futile effort at best.
"Don't misunderstand," Blitz said, raising a hand briefly as Eris spoke of dropping him off somewhere, "I'm not against a trip through space, if you'll allow me to tag along - I'm just curious as to where we're going. I'm not picky about wandering. Hell, I used to just wander, sleep in the nearest tree when night fell, then keep going the next morning. My 'where' was all over the place. Though I suppose my 'when' got a hearty kick semi-recently," he added with a laugh.

She smiled at Blitz's response, a hint of wistfulness traced in her voice. "On your timescale, certainly. If you know the right places to look, though, and have forever to do so, it's really not that hard," she said, her tone quickly turning more mischievous in nature. "I broke Leo out of prison, Treis he was miserable when I first met him. Given the circumstances though, I suppose that's to be expected. But yeah, we became friends and eventually, ah, more than that. It's a pretty small world when your race is practically extinct." Even given the apparent seriousness of her final statement, Eris played it off as a laugh, in truth she really was unbothered by it. It was for the best, though the thirty-three lines had never done anything even nearly as severe to Earthland as they had to their homeworld, there had always been the potential to until they had been splintered into oblivion themselves.
Her casual speech soon ended, however, as Blitz inquired further into... that. "Something... happened, you could say that. It certainly wasn't time. But yes, that's how it worked out," she spoke, quieter than before as her fingers fell still, staring down at them. While she didn't state it directly, it was obvious that she didn't want to discuss the subject any further, the darkness already creeping around her mind, watching, waiting, for the sliver of a slip. There was nothing else that could be said without invoking its wrath, no hint of true emotion, no words that could even betray the consequences of reaching beyond what one should ever know.
Thankfully, though, Eris wouldn't have to. Her demeanor immediately brightened as they divulged into less telling topics, nothing more than mere small talk, relatively. "Ah, I understand. While we 'live' on Trillium, with everything that happens we're rarely actually on the planet. It's an... interesting life, to say the least." It did make a fair deal of sense that Blitz didn't have a destination to travel to in particular, having been so recently established in the modern world it was possible he didn't even have a permanent residence to begin with. Though she didn't know the specifics of the Magic Collective, Eris knew many organizations offered places to stay to members in general, so perhaps he frequented their branches. IMG in particular didn't have such an arrangement, it didn't exactly fit with its more independent nature, but it didn't stop similar groups from doing so.
As they continued to speak, however, she caught the hint of a familiar groan emanating from Leo, shifting her attention over to him as he righted himself on the bed, rubbing his eyes. At the snitches of sight she caught, they had shifted back to a more muted cerise, flecked with both gold and the red's more darker iteration. His gaze eventually fell onto her, grip now shifted to his temple as his visage displayed a continuous, aching wince. "I must have gotten really drunk," he muttered inattentively. "Sorry, am I hallucinating or are you older?"
Eris let out a sigh, shaking her head. "Oh, Leo...." she trailed off. "What year is it?"
What kind of question was that? They cared little for dates, it mattered little in their lives when everything was unchanging anyway. "Uh... 600 something?" Leo said, unsure, still obliging although he had no idea what the point was.
"600 UC?" His face only read confusion. "Are we on Earthland?"
"Where else woul-" Silence fell over him, memories cascading over his consciousness like a tsunami of great force. Death, destruction, and ruin, it painted the images in black and white, speckled and splattered in blood yet gradually did it subside, into a gentler tide that waxed and waned, eventually fading into nothingness. From his widened gaze did he blink, shoving it all aside as his mind was re-established in the present. "No."
Blitz laughed gently. "Well, good to know that anyone who happens to find themselves outside the usual restraints of time will be able to find a date now and then," he said with a grin as he took a sip of his water, listening to her brief tale of how she'd met Leo. "He was in prison?" Blitz asked, eyebrow raised. "What was he in prison f...." Blitz paused, glancing at Leo. "....oh. I think I might have an idea of how he managed to be mistaken as someone needing to be contained."
As for the topic of her magic, she was less telling about what may or may not have transpired to cause the loss of the old magic and the gain of the new. "Ah. I see." Blitz said, then chuckled. "You and Leo each seem to have your own tells for the 'need-to-know basis' stuff. You just go a bit silent, but Leo's voice gets a hint of stern-ness in his tone, like he's trying to think of a way to politely tell me to piss off with the questions." he said with a smile.
Blitz nodded as Eris mentioned their residence, and the fact that they rarely stayed there enough for it to be said that they 'live' there. "You make it sound more like a summer home than a house." Blitz said with a chuckle. "I've got my own place for the time being, thanks to the Magic Collective, but I plan to get a permanent residence of my own soon enough."
Any further conversation was interrupted by the sound of Leo waking up in his seat in the cockpit. Hopefully back to his old self, because that destructive impulse would be a severe problem in a pressurized vehicle in the void of space, Blitz thought. Thankfully, however, Leo, while a bit out of sorts, did seem to be his old self. Or his VERY old self, it seemed, as he was confused as to why they weren't on Earthland for a moment, then after multiple shifts in expression, finally seemed back in the here and now. "Welcome back." Blitz said with a smile, before glancing at Eris. "...Given what happened, methinks you should be the one to fill in the blanks for him on this one." he said after a moment.

Her features cracked a wicked grin for a moment before it subsided, oh how polite Blitz was to assume the best of people. Mistaken, human decency truly was a novel concept, like the pruning of nightshade for it did not matter how elegant it turned out - the fact still remained that it was a deadly thing. As was the human psyche, capable of great compassion yet in an instant unbounded cruelty, it only truly mattered how one decided to phrase their predicament. Yes, it would not be hard for them to cower behind their terrible deeds, pin them off as a result of the horrors they suffered at the hands of the righteous, but where was the fun in that? It wasn't like they regretted any of it, even when they tried their hardest to feign it, to accept guiltiness as the truth.
Eris let out a 'humph', eyebrows raised although it was more so due to her amusement than any judging qualities. Need-to-know basis, no, every had the right to know about... that, but such was impossible. If it weren't, she would have already poured out to Blitz the depths of it, but even dwelling on that action caused it to wind tighter around her mind, managing no other words on the subject, no matter how far removed.
It was a relief, to move onto a topic she could be a little more genuine with. "Trillium could hardly be described as a summery planet, but you have the right idea. Good luck with you search, I would offer my advice but, ah, it's been a while," Eris said, offering a smile that was more or less a pleasantry with a sense of alleviation tacked onto it, but nonetheless it was present.
Leo continued to stare into empty space for a few more seconds, before finally shaking his head in brief self-admonishment. "Okay, that was pretty bad, but not as bad as when you-" he stopped as she made a hard glance over at the metal mage. "Oh, hi Blitz." Still, he was momentarily confused by the man's words, what was there to be filled in on? Wait, why were they on Blackjack to begin with, and, as he took a brief look out the window that framed their bed's alcove, traveling with the warp drive? Even at Blitz's suggestion Eris did not speak, she knew Leo would put it all together within a short period of time, it wasn't an unordinary experience for either of them.
It was at that point he noticed the coldness that rested at his chest, the familiar weight heavy as he reached under his shirt, pulling to the forefront a pendant that had previously been hidden inocculously under his clothes, the only trace of it a thin strand of twine peaking from the collar. His fingers now held the necklace delicately, focused not on the cast iron circlet but on the obsidian it encased, frozen to the touch yet catching the light the crystal was. It never did that, and it was at that point that he ran over a hairline crack in the surface, thinner than the nail that had found it. "Oh no...." he uttered, a distant dismay caught in his throat as his thoughts spiraled downward into the abyss. It was a broken haze, a torrent of emotions, wrong emotions, horrible, dreadful, electrifying, intoxicating. "What... what di-" His voice trembled, caught as his gaze fell upon Eris, begging for an answer even as she crossed the room, steadying his shuddered grip as she closed his hand, sitting on the bed next to him.
"Tolokonsky is dead, and his lackeys are as well. You leveled his base," she spoke, softly yet efficiently. He waited, baiting his breath, in which she shook her head. "That's it." A sigh of relief resounded from his lungs, caving over as one elbow met his knee, head hung low. At least... at least that was it. It was all he could cling to, really, the words that repeated over and over in his mind, for, if there was one thing to be noted, it was that it could have been so much worse.
Blitz merely laughed when Eris said she wouldn't be able to recommend anything. "No worries - from what I gather, you two are a little busy with things to serve as impromptu real estate agents," Blitz said with a slight grin.
As Leo came to, he seemed out of place and a bit out of time, as he initially seemed to think he was back on Earthland, until the reality of where he was slowly sunk in, much to Leo's dismay, and after a moment, Eris brought him up to speed on what had happened while he was out of sorts, and while initially tense, Leo seemed immensely relieved that no one besides their enemies had gotten hurt. "In fairness, I did try to approach you while you were...out of sorts, and Eris simply told me not to. Only took about ten seconds for me to see why, though. You basically turned the base into gravel."
"I will say though, it was......very bizarre to see that from the outside looking in." Blitz said. "While I can't claim to have any non-human parentage - both my own parents were humans, of that I'm certain - but rest assured, that's not the only way to acquire a second nature of the more aggressive sort." Blitz said, taking another sip of water before staring out the window quietly for a moment. "I could even show you, if you're curious, as compared to Leo's, I'm not certain he's less destructive, but he is more.....suitably caged, but I understand if you're not exactly in the mood," Blitz said after a moment.

Second nature... he was genuinely intrigued by the notion for all of two seconds before he realized what Blitz was implying. If only that were the case, if only Leo could blame someone other than himself, would life not be so much easier? If only the ocean of blood that trailed behind him was the work of another man, one hidden beneath the flesh yet nonetheless still not his own actions, memories, desires. A hopeless fantasy, it could not be further from the truth. As his most recent experiences returned in their full focus, there was horror, and at the edge of it glee, he loathed the emotion but could not erase it from his psyche.
"Blitz," Leo looked up at the man, the shame coated thick on his voice though there was a trace of sympathy as well. "I wouldn't know what that's like. I... I...." His gaze was averted down to the floor, shaking his head as his hands continued to do the same. "I did all of that. Me, myself, not an alter ego only a complete and utter lack of self-control. I remember it all now, I... I just wanted to be sure. I suppose I owe both of you an apology for my uncouth behavior."
Eris let out a mark of disbelief, though her expressions still communicated visible concern. "As if that matters. It's okay though, you'll be fine in due time."
His stare traveled over to her, slated for all intents and purposes. Even without the illogical sense of her proposition, he could tell she was not reassuring him but herself. "Eris, please don't lie. I... well, I had a sneaking suspicion for some time, that... that there was something wrong. Maescia could never place it, I don't think we even considered the worst," Leo said, soft spoken.
"And you didn't tell me." He shrugged, in any other situation his ear probably would have been yanked, but when circumstances were dire it was all she muster up in a retort, not much of one at all though he had only wished to alleviate concern in the first place.
It had been nothing, it should have been nothing, why now, how? It was an assault of queries, and so he decided to focus on the past, a recent one yet not entirely fresh. "After a little while I didn't think much of it, other than sleep deprivation and a few unfortunate encounters. The usual suspects." Leo paused for a moment, taking in the scope of the room for the first time since he had awoken. As his eyes passed over the light above it flickered for a brief moment, in which he bit his lip. "And now we're here, impossible as it is."
Leo haltingly explained his predicament with his second nature, the difference between his problem and Blitz's own was brought into glaring focus. While Blitz's was another persona entirely, Leo just had the one, and thus nowhere to shift the blame when he inevitably came to his senses. "You make it sound as though whatever keeps your magic in check also keeps part of your personality in check," Blitz said, in an attempt to gain clarification, "Because from how you're phrasing it, you're not denying that it was still you when you were acting like that, even though your personality and temperament did quite the 180 back there."
Blitz listened as the two talked - apparently Leo had suspicions for a time, but chose not to worry Eris, which had wound up backfiring, even if it had saved their lives back there. However, Blitz felt the need to interject, if briefly - "Was this 'Maescia' around before the departure from Earthland, or someone you trusted with knowledge about this at IMG?" Blitz asked. "Because if this never happened before now, is it possible that something happened between Earthland and now? Even if it's just the wear and tear of time itself on whatever is keeping it in check? Magic can last for a very long time, but it ain't eternal." he pointed out.
Blitz glanced out the front window as Leo said they were here, but not before mentioning. "I won't tell you not to worry about it - if even Eris is concerned, then clearly it's worth worrying about - but don't think you're the only one who knows the feeling of out-of-control magic leading to something regretful, Leo." Blitz said quietly as they descended.

A part of Leo wanted to display the truth in its every gory detail, intricacies that one could only ever hope to remember had they spent years in rumination of it, as he had, as he did every time his mind caught a wink of sleep, desperately trying to escape the past, but alas, he never did. But no, he was certain Blitz would not respond well to that, though he generally had an even temperament the man had also expressed a distaste toward bloodshed, whereas, indirectly at the very least, directly in all likelihood, Leo had killed millions. Just a small difference, wasn't that? "Well, ah, yes, it's kind of like when you're standing at the edge of a cliff and have the irrational thought to jump off of it? The impulse is always there, it just gets much worse when I actually have the ability to act on it. Magic is, of course, the most severe offender, but my weapon of choice is a sword for a reason...." he trailed off, letting out a bout of nervous laughter as he rubbed the back of his neck.
Eris shrugged at Blitz's query, for the answer was somewhere in between the two he had suggested, although certainly it had little to do with IMG. "She's an elf, but she's not that old, I'm afraid. Maescia hails from a long line of physicians with a touch toward the magical side of the practice, her grandmother helped us originally and we've been close to the family ever since. It's a bit of a habit," she explained, then glancing over to Leo for she could only guess what had happened to the seal, though his offering wasn't much better.
"That could be the case, honestly, we didn't really expect we'd live much longer after it happened in the first place, what with Earthland dying and everything. And I'd be a fool to try to tamper with it to figure out how it works, though the Illivarus family does keep very good records, again, the apocalypse really isn't the best time to be thinking about a distant future that we all thought had little probability of panning out. We can only hope she was optimistic." He inhaled deeply, for the first time his hands beginning to steady, even merely contemplating what could be done was monumentally better than anything else, everything else. Stella was on the horizon, and in the sight of the planet's lush, verdant greens did Leo nod, muttering, "I know." Yet from the silence that befell the ship did the crackling of stereo emanate from the cockpit, its ominous message reaching them even as they began their descent into the wilderness.
Blitz raised an eyebrow at the simile Leo used to explain his situation. "Can't say that I've ever wanted to jump off a cliff." Blitz said. "Though in fairness, both you and I can fly, so perhaps a fall isn't the best analogy," he added with a slight smile. He didn't quite fully understand the implications of having a sword as a main weapon - he assumed it was something dark, alluding to the fact that he'd gone into this 'mode' and ended lives before, but Blitz was a living weapon - while he was opposed to slaughter, he had only seen him slay enemies thus far, and Blitz was far more used to creative solutions, such that only viewing a sword as an instrument of destruction seemed a narrow viewpoint, from his perspective.
Eris clarified about their friend - while she was indeed someone looking forward to a longer lifespan than some could boast, as she was apparently an elf, she said that their grandmother had originally known them, and her granddaughter was now the one helping them out. "Wait, you guys know an elf? Does IMG know you know an elf? Because last I checked, humanity was the only sentient life most people are aware of, and while we're looking into the alien business, I'm fairly sure I didn't meet any elves back on Earthland. So did you meet them out here in space, after the Exodus?" Blitz asked.
Leo actually did admit that Blitz's theory of the 'seal' wearing down over time being within the realm of reasonable possibility, but couldn't confirm it, and more importantly, could exactly afford to undo it to see what caused the issue, as tampering with it would only cause it to unwind even further. "Best not to mess with it, I suppose," Blitz said, "But you should remember to float that possibility to your elven friend - maybe it's possible to re-strengthen this 'seal' without having to alter it too much. Though I'd wager you know far more about that than I." Blitz fell quiet as the message blared on the radio.
