Emily pouted a little at Leo's tone. "Yeesh! You're too serious, Leo. Lighten up!"
There was extreme excitement coursing through the atmosphere. Bloodlust was one thing to which the redhead was attuned and even if Leo was hiding it, it was still palpable to Emily. He was thrumming with the desire to murder and, surrounded by his dark magic, he was like some kind of terrible demon from a hellish dimension and it was one of the most thrilling things that the pale-skinned, slender but muscled young woman had ever seen. She moved along behind him as he simply killed at will. Although she was aching to kill, there was a sensual beauty in the way that Leo did it which she had to admire.
Reflexes honed by years of fighting, despite her tender years, compelled her to simply sprint after her companion. There was clearly something going on here that was going to endanger her and so she moved alongside the deadly man to whom she had tied herself. There was a roaring in her head that she could not avoid hearing, it was screaming at her to commit murder and this was the best chance she was going to have to do it. Attuning herself to her companion, she quieted down and ran with him, ready for whatever might come.

There was held the shocking disparity between the two of them. She thought of death and destruction as nothing more than a game to take part in, to extract joy, happiness, and whatever the hell else her twisted psyche desired. Thus her attitude was cheery, playful even, while she murdered. He, on the other hand, while there was exhilaration involved it was not something he sought to converse, rationalize, civilize, even. The darkness simply was, it needed no direction nor instruction, pre-meditation was unnecessary and suppressed his desires already locked deep down. Offering no further comment, Leo emerged at the front of the apartment complex, no residents disturbed which pointed to the fact that there likely were none to be found.
The slump of the building, the pronounced tilt it had acquired and the ground that cracked beneath, parts of it giving way to the underbelly of what had once been a fortress, displeased Leo. Not because of the marring of the surface, no, it was because it was incomplete, not made whole in its annihilated state. He yearned to demolish it entirely, yet even as his arm was raised, shadows called to it, he recognized the girl beside him and forced his magic to dissipate. The sliver of a pained hiss was caught in his throat, closing his eyes as his heart steadied from its rapid beating, one breath at a time. Eventually his visage reset, erasing any trace of emotion previously held, although the aching of the void still remained.
"We should go before authorities show up and wonder who got a hold of their hit list," Leo stated. "The headquarters of IMG should still be open at this hour, well, they're always open, but to the public. You did... well enough, certainly there are others less qualified among the Assassins' ranks." To be honest, he had paid all that much attention to Emily, but she at least knew how to wield a knife proficiently. The lower assignments of the branch would prove her worth, really, that was how all of IMG operated.
Disappointment flashed briefly over Emily's face, but was gone again in a moment. She stood and looked at the building, tilting now that there had been a great deal of dangerous force applied to it. There was something that irked the wiry redhead about leaving it that way. She envisaged it crumbling to dust in front of them as Leo destroyed it, but all he did was make a tiny noise that Emily interpreted as disappointment and then whatever troubled him was gone again.
Her pale skin was flushed and her fevered green eyes were still almost glowing from the excitement of what had happened. There was a fine spray of blood on her hands and she smiled as she looked at it. Already some part of her was craving more death, more violence, more destruction but Emily was just going to have to wait. Now was not the time to fully slake her thirst for spilling blood. It took some effort but she did eventually manage to start breathing more evenly. Sheathing Blood's Tear, she turned to face Leo.
"Well of course I did well enough! I've only been using this knife since I was a kid. Anyhow, you're the boss, so lead the way. I'll do whatever it takes for you and well, I guess this IMG thing, since you seem to be important in it."
One thing that the crimson-haired young woman wasn't short of was imagination and it was already spinning around excitedly as the possibilities of working for a secret organization ran through her head. This was the first time that she was actually desirous of working for an organization, if only for the sake of getting to kill more people.
"And I thought you said you didn't trust anyone," he muttered under his breath, offering no further comment. Leo knew that her words were nothing more than a thinly veiled deception, her reverence a coating of veneer to get that which she desired. Clever in theory, but in practice Emily lacked the subtleties of a manipulator, she was too enthusiastic, too obvious in her intent. Or perhaps that was just his mind picking its way through, being a practiced liar himself, well, it was far easier to catch others in the act. No matter, she clearly wasn't an authoritative figure of any kind nor posed an apparent threat, although there were always those who hid their true abilities.
Calamitas vanished from his grasp, the blood that had managed to seep its way onto his skin removed soon after. With that, he dusted off the pieces of rubble that had managed to find their way on his clothing and into his hair, which only then did he realize he probably needed a haircut. Oh well, that would be a task for a later date. "It's a bit of walk from here, but I don't want to take a direct route just in case the police end up caring about this for some reason," Leo stated. Usually they stayed out of IMG business, especially when the organization was ridding the capital of illegal entities, but occasionally a righteous cop made up their mind to investigate further. That night would be a terrible time for such an occurrence, not only for his own... lack of restraint, but for Emily's as well. Perhaps hers more so, considering he doubted she cared much about Trillium.
He knew the streets of the city like the back of his hand, so despite his warning it didn't take them terribly long to arrive at their destination. A grand skyscraper that cut through the horizon, at surface level its elegance was still quite obvious, main entrance bustling with people even at the hour as the revolving doors never seemed to halt for more than a few moments. Tucking his hands into his pockets, Leo sauntered toward one, recognizing a fair amount of the passerbys. Some called out to him, in which offered a smile and wave, occasionally a response in return, but no conversation was sustained, at least until he entered into the headquarters proper, a grand yet familiar foyer greeting him.
The shard of glass and steel that rose above both of them was a blade piercing the sky. The crowds that flowed in and out were a tide washing through the building, seeming to ebb and flow as they went through it. This number of people was not something that Emily was used to, but she had felt fairly comfortable with crowds. It was odd to see how people greeted Leo, given that he wasn’t exactly Mr. Congeniality from what she’d seen. Neither was she, but nobody needed to know that from the outside, did they?
The lobby was dramatic but the foyer was even more so. It was designed to be maximally impressive and even a cold killer like Emily was forced to look a little awed. There were clearly perks to belonging to this IMG thing and that was fine with her. Back in a previous life, in a previous world she had sought to have the backing of an organization and not succeeded at finding it. Finally she was in a place where things might change.
As they walked, Emily spoke, her voice reaching up to Leo. “Well gotta say the place looks good, boss! I’m sure you’re a big part of it. Everyone sure liked saying hi didn’t they? Never thought you were so popular.”
This was the usual babble that she undertook. It continued on as they moved on, deeper into this place owned by IMG.
Leo shrugged. "I've lived here for a long time. IMG as a whole, though, covers a far greater scope than you think. I certainly don't have that much influence in it." Offering no further comment, though his was certainly cryptic to begin with, he continued on his predestined path. That was to a secretary's desk in the midst of them all, not firmly placed on either end of the hall and thus inconspicuous in nature. It served its purpose well, in fact, there was no one currently visiting the man that staffed it, the secretary possessing a slight frame and dirty blond hair slicked back in an almost unpleasant manner. He would probably be best described as an intern, although Leo knew him quite well; his mildly disheveled appearance was nothing more than a facade. "Hey Kasen, I've got a recruit," he called out, propping one elbow up on the clerical desk soon after.
"Do you, now?" Kasen asked, looking Emily up and down. "I suppose I could register her... what's your name?"
Waiting for her to response, after all Leo had never actually gotten the girl's surname, he then added to his previous statement. "Work's been a pain in the ass lately, hasn't it?"
The man smirked for a brief second, stealing another glance at Emily. "It sure has. I'll need to get a picture of you, miss, follow me." With that, Kasen gestured in the direction of an elevator nearby, typing a few things on the computer he was at before setting it to lock and heading toward the lift. Leo followed behind, observing the individuals mulling about in the lobby, particularly focusing on a few although it was nothing more than a passive action. A small smile crept up on his visage, recalling what the skyscraper had once looked like, partially completed and most certainly not as bustling as it was now. Kasen toggled a button on the elevator as it arrived and they stepped inside, Leo instantly recognizing it as the registration floor for the illicit branches of IMG. A scan from the secretary's card later, and they began to ascend, the girl's future within her grasp.
Emily tried hard to stifle a yawn. All of this bureaucratic mumbo-jumbo was something she considered to be a huge waste of time. Who cared what her name was and about registering her? However, the pale skinned, lean young woman tried to accept that it was all part of the game that she was playing. After all, games needed rules. She hated rules but you couldn’t win the game unless you followed them. Besides breaking them was an option once they’d been learned. Instead of protesting, she shuffled up to the counter, gave Kasen a grin and said, “The name’s Winter. Emily Winter.”
“Picture?” She raised her bright crimson eyebrows at Leo. “What’s this guy want my picture for?”
The part of her that shunned official attention was recoiling from the idea that anyone would have an image of her on record. It had been her practice to avoid all that sort of thing but she still followed along when she was beckoned. This was an opportunity that was far too good to be missed and she was going to grab a hold of it and crush it in both hands until it was a pulp. She reminded herself that she’d do whatever it took to reach her end goals.

Like most individuals who joined IMG with the intent of working for its darker side, Emily was naturally suspicious to the process of having anything about her solidified in record. He understood the sentiment to a degree, although it was a sympathy intertwined with hist past self, no longer a true concern of the present. It was the same for everybody, after all, no exceptions would be given and most certainly not in the case of a girl who simply didn't trust others. "Identification," Leo answered flatly, briefly flashing his own card. "If you're concerned about being traced, don't be, IMG records aren't registered with any government unless you specifically request it. You didn't even have to give your real name back there." He had perhaps spoken that information a bit too late, but then again Winter was a rather... unusual surname, simply because of its generic denotation.
Regardless, Kasen directed the girl to a booth nearby, the floor nearly empty at the hour aside from some personnel who vaguely nodded in their direction, recognizing their guide's authority. A photo op and several other miscellaneous details later, Kasen handed Emily a freshly printed identification card, her name, face, and a strip of green present on it. "Welcome to IMG," Leo said as he leaned against a wall, watching in mild amusement.
Kasen glared for a moment. "Hey, that's my line." He offered a smirk in response, in which the man continued. "You're free to take whatever sort of job you'd like, but I would recommend staying within the parameters of Green since you're new around here. As for your chosen profession, you'll find postings for it on the fourteenth level here. You'll have to use that card to gain access, though, otherwise you'll be redirected to a different area. Try it now, if you'd like." Kasen gestured toward the elevator they had previously exited, Leo hanging back despite it.
Emily shrugged. “Nah it’s fine. I guess I gotta do what I gotta do to join you. It’s okay! I’ll give you a good photo.”
The photo op took a while because the redheaded killer couldn’t help but goof around. Occasionally she was prone to being silly, even when she knew seriousness was required. Kasen got his photo eventually, in which Emily didn’t actually look like most people do in ID photos. Most people complained of looking like a serial killer in their ID photos, whereas Emily really was one and only looked like a regular smiling young woman who had just had her picture taken.
The pale skinned young woman grinned at Leo. “Thanks! Glad to be of service, boss.”
Emily headed over to the elevator, swiped the card and clapped her hands when the doors opened. She spun around, jumped into the elevator and stood in between the doors to keep them open. “So Green huh? I guess I’ll figure all these terms out!”
She smiled again and cut her eyes in Leo’s direction. “So do I, like, explore and report back to you once I figure out the job I take or what, Leo?”
Lolling in the doorway, Emily felt real excitement leaping through her and that was perhaps the best feeling in the world.

He chuckled at the girl's enthusiasm, although Leo knew full well she would have to keep it in check if she wanted to survive. Regardless, however, he knew without even checking his watch that it was getting late, and he didn't exactly have the time, well really the will, to meander around Headquarters any longer. "I'll have to catch you at a later time; I'm going to grab a taxi," Leo replied, with a smile and a wave. After the elevator shut, he glanced around the room for a moment, and, having seen the nearest personnel take their leave for a moment, lowered his voice. "Hey Kasen, could you let Lancey know that the Cardinal Enigma offshoot on Terrace Street has been taken care of?"
The man narrowed his eyes for a moment in the direction of the lift, as if putting two and two together. "Sure thing. Should I tell him you're working again as well?" Kasen asked.
"No, I'm not quite ready to return yet," Leo answered, his voice soft-spoken, a tone of defeat evident as he almost continued with a darker phrase. He held his tongue, however, only the hint of a note emerging before it was cut off. The silence was tantamount to a deep rift, at least in his own mind, although only a few moments of awkward staring passed in reality. "I... I'll be leaving now. We can catch up another time?" Kasen nodded, and before any further concerns could be voiced Leo headed downstairs, eventually back into the din of the streets below. It was time for him to head home, yes, he had a feeling if he stayed for any longer decisions worse than those he had already made would play out.
