"So, with the Christmas list sent, it should have been a happy ending, right? Wrong." Laelynn, now even shaking ever so slightly, took a sip of her melon soda before taking another bite of pizza, looking to P.A.L in a dead serious fashion. "She only got the ether cells....Her father never came back...and by the next year, her mother had passed. And before ya' ask, yeah, that girl was me. So, ya' know what...? Yeah, I do hate Santa Claus. And I swear, in the unlikely event I ever see them, I'll either tell ya' to vaporize them an' their sleigh, or shank'em myself. Now ya' understand why I hate Christmas P.A.L, so, let's just end the conversation here. I want to finish my work and get ta' sleep."
"...You have my condolences...for everything. I seem to have caused you distress, and that was not my intent..." "You ain't got ta' apologize P.A.L, ya' weren't even alive back then, so, just let me finish this." "Confirmed." As Laelynn went back to work, outside of her focus, yet more lights flashed around the ship as P.A.L processed the current information. Despite a lack of an empathy system being installed, they became...troubled, and their processing skills became muddled. P.A.L was not sure what this effect on their systems were, but, they did know one thing. Their plan, whatever that may be, only seemed more right and proper after Laelynn's explanation, and they were now committed to that course of action, regardless of the consequences...

Eventually, as Laelynn finally finished her water generation system, she took a deep breath, tapping the new device on the side a few times. "Took a bit longer than expected but finally got it. Guess chemistry ain't as hard as I thought..." Stretching out her arms, Laelynn reached out to another slice of pizza, now nearly at the crust, but still forcing herself to eat the entire thing. After all, she'd never waste perfectly safe food, even if it wasn't her favorite.~ "Well P.A.L, it's been fun talking about pointless human ideas, but I'm going to head ta'bed early. Hope you have a good night, and as always, let me know if something ends up goin' wrong with the ship." "Understood, goodnight, Miss Morbane."
As Laelynn retreated to her personal quarters, P.A.L's camera systems, against her normal orders, silently and without a trace turned on, observing her status as they saw their normally arrogant and truly proud creator fall into a state of disrepair, collapsing upon her bed and shoving her face into her pillow, and P.A.L's sensors detected oxytocin and endorphins flooding her system, along with release of ACTH...all side effects of crying when stressed...When P.A.L's biometric measurements finally detected Laelynn had fallen asleep proper, they put their plan into action, as the ship changed course without Laelynn's approval, now heading to an unknown location, for whatever P.A.L had planned...

As Laelynn slept, P.A.L. directed the ship to a nearby, urban planet, surely no capital, but from their research, it had everything they needed to enact their plan, and they had made reservations proper.~ Unbeknownst to Laelynn, the ship found itself parking into a nearby ship shelter, which functioned as a place for refuel and repair, but also as a refuge for people who wished to rest for the night without weathering the dangers of space, and on this specific planet, which had similar hours to galactic standard time, it was soon to reach morning...
-Many hours later...-
"Mmmhhh...." Groggily waking up from her sleep, Laelynn tilted over on her side, feeling strangely off balance, yet, having no clue why. "P.A.L, what time is it.....P.A.L...?" Yet, the normally loyal and attentive A.I. said nothing, prompting Laelynn to repeat herself once more, rolling over in the motion to look at her alarm clock, and only then did her sense of disorientation make sense. Normally set to an exact time, neither her alarm clock, nor P.A.L had alerted her at the proper time, waking up at a far later than usual time! Just past noon, in fact!
Only then did she toggle the normally opaque window near her bed, now finding herself in a strange, though seemingly private docking port, (At least at first glance.) and immediately, her thoughts went to the worst, of minor fear that P.A.L. was going haywire, but most of all, one more emotion...Wasting no more time, she leapt from her bed into action, a surge of sparks erupting from her body as her C.A.T. suit manifested around her, her emoji showing wide, sharpened jaws, stomping towards her bedroom door. In other words, according to her emoji, she was pissed! "P.A.L, have ya' got a circuit loose?! I swear to god if you picked today of all times to go rogue, I am NOT in the mood! I will FUCK you u-!"

Yet, as Laelynn opened the door and tried to finish her threat to destroy P.A.L, her ability to think went blank, going straight into a confused stupor. Instead of am ambush or weapons, she found a Christmas tree covered in decorations, red and green lights strewn about the ship, even presents under the tree, all under the ambience of a classically known Christmas song, previously having been unheard through the ship's sound dampening systems.
Even more so along with the visual and audio bombardment, she immediately smelled delicious, varied foods! Turkey, potatos, gravy, ham, and pies, and even the scent of seasoned pinecones from the tree! "Uhhhh...?" Now finally getting a response from her "rogue" A.I, the robotic arm rigged to the ceiling approached her, offering her favorite energy drink in hand as the speakers of the ship sprang to life.
"Good morning, Miss Morbane...and Merry Christmas." Mouth agape in confusion, Laelynn could only stare blankly to P.A.L and unequip her suit, reaching out to the energy drink without looking, popping the top and taking a swig in complete disbelief. "...W-...what is all this P.A.L...?" "A Christmas tree, Christmas presents, Christmas music, and of course, a Christmas feast. Do you not recognize them?" "No! I mean, yes! I mean, when?! How?! Why?!"

"As for when, just this morning as you can guess. I made arrangements for all of this two weeks ago. To answer how, I had directed so that all Christmas supplies and cheer be pre-wrapped, and delivered to our ship while you slept. Of course, to ensure your safety, I made specific orders that all deliveries be made by droid, in order to prevent theft or other unsavory action. The most complicated part og the logistics was making sure the food arrived last. As for why...It would be negligent of a truly excellent A.I. to ignore the suffering of their creator. I am only following my directives. Directive Four: Take active measures to ensure Laelynn Morbane's health." At P.A.L's explanation, Laelynn's visage broke down from confusion to a sentimental frown, remembering that some months ago, P.A.L had added a fourth directive without her consent, and at first, she was skeptical but now...
"In addendum, I was just about to wake you, but I was putting on the finishing touch to your tree." As the robotic arm reached back over to the tree, it reached into an appropriately elevated box, pulling out an angel like figurine in a white dress with wings, with a hairstyle very similar to Laelynn's, placing it directly upon the very top of the tree. "Regrettably, I could not find a safe and fast way to install a fireplace, however...I hope everything is to your liking, Miss Morbane." Instead of anger, or annoyance, as she usually reacted in the few times P.A.L. went behind her back, Laelynn went silent, her legs going weak, slumping down onto the ground on her knees, sitting down upon her legs, hands reaching up to cover her eyes as moisture began to accumulate upon her face, lightning breathing as she tried to hold back her emotions.
"I sense hormones related to the act known as crying...Is it not to your liking, Miss Morbane? I can destroy and dispose of all of this if you wish me to." "N-No! Stupid P.A.L...these are tears of joy..." Sobbing into her hands, nearly a decade of emotional repression came into play. Years of loneliness, years of pain, all of them lost, certainly, it wasn't as perfect as having a family with her, but this was the first proper Christmas Laelynn had experienced since she could remember, all thanks to a nosey, oblivious A.I. she usually downplayed. "T-Thank you, P.A.L...! I...I love it...all of it..."
At Laelynn's breakdown, P.A.L only adjusted their ceiling bound robotic arm to shift closer to her, reaching down as far as they could, offering her a hand. "Please, allow me to show you what I have set up, Miss Morbane." "Y-yeah, okay..." Wiping her tears with her pajama sleeves, Laelynn reached up, accepting the cold, metallic hand of her robotic assistant, pulling herself upwards and back to her feet, and allowing P.A.L to guide her. Leading her first to the Christmas tree in the center of the ship, P.A.L went on to explain. "First off, the tallest tree we could fit into the shipof the highest quality, freshly cut for that winter pine scent, accentuated with traditional red and green ornaments, along with lights of the same color. The same applies to the lights now strung along the ship, as you can see. Additionally, the presents I ordered have been personally selected based on your interests and ethernet search history. I do hope you find at least a few presents you enjoy. Moving on..."
Still grasping onto P.A.L's hand, Laelynn meekly followed as P.A.L brought her to the nearest ship speaker system, pausing as they arrived. "The music was selected based on hours of research into human culture and measuring song popularity, while cross referencing that to the timeline they were made in, with the hopes of creating the optimum Christmas playlist for your enjoyment. Additionally, on top of audio enjoyment, I have prepared your favorite streaming site with a selection of Christmas movies, using the same forms of analysis and data collection." As P.A.L hand went to move across the ceiling again, Laelynn remained silent, only giving a small whimper, looking back at the presents, too confused and disorientated to think about where P.A.L was obviously leading her next.
"And lastly, what I believe you will like the most, the Christmas feast you spoke so fondly of." Leading her into the kitchen area of the ship, Laelynn realized her nose didn't betray her, as a veritable feast lay before her eyes, and a whole lot more! "One whole turkey, five pounds of "loaded" mashed potatos, three pounds of gravy, one pound of cranberry sauce, a four pound Christmas honey baked ham, two pies, apple and pumpkin, respectively, a pound of figgy pudding, half a pound of Christmas pudding, and two pounds of assorted vegetables with a cream sauce on the side." Looking at the feast in front of her, Laelynn tried to no avail to hold her tears back once more. "T-This is way too much, P.A.L..." "I thought this quantity to be optimum considering your average calorie intake, I don't understand..." "No! I mean...it's everything...why? Why did you...?"
"As stated before, it would be negligent for an A.I to ignore the suffering of their creator. I only obeyed my directives." Paused in time for a moment, Laelynn wiped the tears off her face, giving P.A.L. a weak, but sincere smile. "Well, keep the food warm P.A.L, I'mma' take a shower real quick and we can get this Christmas started..." "But Miss Morbane, weren't you going to install your water synthesizing device before your next shower?" "IT CAN WAIT! I WANT TA' SEE MY PRESENTS!" Excitedly rushing off into the restroom for her shower and other purposes, towel and favorite cyan pajamas in hand, Laelynn disappeared from sight for P.A.L's cameras, showing an abnormally childish level of energy, and leaving P.A.L to their own thoughts. Despite their lack of human emotions, they really did manage to do something truly noble and human-like, even if they didn't know it...They gave Laelynn a Christmas she once thought would never happen again.~
After a brief repose with her shower and other such morning activities, Laelynn wasted absolutely no time getting to her first real Christmas in a long time. Towel wrapped around her hair, and dressed into a new pair of her favorite, silk, cyan pajama's, Laelynn's first stop was, of course, the most logical one, the Christmas feast! Stacking multiple paper plates together for a reinforced structure, Laelynn piled on all the food she could manage, from potatos, to the ham and turkey, cranberry sauce, and of course, a *ton* of gravy. Of course she was eager to check out her presents, but unlike those, food was perishable, so she needed to allocate her time properly. And sure, paper plates weren't the most classy or cost efficient, but porcelain dinnerware didn't really quite last that long on interstellar travel and being honest...She had eaten from worse during her times as a street urchin.
With that, she wasted no time heading over to the Christmas tree, sitting in a criss-cross position, and taking her first few bites of turkey and potatos, eyes lighting up with Christmas delight!~ "Phal, thies is ahmahzin! Whair'd it chome fhrom...?" "Please don't talk with your mouth full, Miss Morbane. I cannot understand what you're saying..." Chewing a bit more and swalling her food, Laelynn sighed, tilting her head up at a near perfect ninety degree angle, staring straight up at the closest camera. "I said the food's amazing.~ Where'd it come from?" "A local bistro on this planet was offering Christmas meals for those who did not cook for themselves, as long as a pre-order was made in advance. I can upload their data into your "favorite food places" folder, if you so desire me to." "Make it so please!~" With another few bites of ham and cranberry sauce, Laelynn placed her heaping plate of food down upon her lap and inbetween her legs, eyeing down the various wrapped gifts, and savoring the fresh pine scent from the tree itself with a deep, long, breath. "Now then...what'ta open first, hmmm...~"
"Whatever you choose, I picked each and every gift according to your known interests, psychological factors, and internet search history. I hope they meet your expectations." "Really? Well, we'll see.~" Taking up the closest gift, a very small package in a rectangular package, Laelynn eagerly went to work unwrapping the first present, only to be greeted by...a small, block of iron, far, far heavier than it should be. "...The hell? You got me a rock?" "Please look at the other side, Miss Morbane." Turning the seemingly over-heavy rock around, Laelynn realized she wasn't holding a mere rock, but a scientific coffin! A latch on the back, with a warning label for radioactivity glued upon the back, it wasn't a normal rock, it was a "nuclear coffin!"
"W-Wait! Is this a Uranium-Etherite Cell!?!" "Correct. My superior scanners managed to find an auction selling them, and I took the bid." "I've been looking for one for AGGEEES!" Despite the highly radioactive nature, knowing it was contained in it's shell, Laelynn hugged the incredibly dangerous shell containing the element, feeling the warmth among her chest. "It's only the first gift, but I *love* it P.A.L!~ Ya' got no idea what I can do with'it!~" Smiling to herself, Laelynn tucked away the dangerous shell of ether-active material back into it's box, looking side to side for her next gift, now more eager than ever to see the gifts P.A.L got for her.~
So as the night went on, Laelynn continued to open various gifts, ranging from scientific (and usually highly dangerous) scientific equipment, to more mundane yet lovable items, such as gift cards for Kunigi Fried Chicken, comfortable cyan clothing, and multiple packs of melon soda.~ Though, at one point through the various gifts, with a slight whine, but still smiling, Laelynn looked up to the camera overhead, giving an inquisitive head tilt. "Mmmm, I'm loving every single one of these gifts but ta' be honest P.A.L, I was really hoping for a kitten. Don't suppose you have one hidden away as a surprise gift, huh?~" She said, crossing her arms over her chest and giving the slightest of pouts. "That was one of my primary gifts at the start but after running a few hundred simulations, it didn't seem to be...a prudent idea." "Whaaat?! How so?! I'd be a great pet owner!" "I do not doubt that, Miss Morbane. My decision came from the capricious nature of cats themselves, which could lead to unpleasant outcomes."
"Like what? Just name a few..." Laelynn continued to pout, not quite understanding the angle P.A.L was coming from. "Simulation #47: Cat leaps into your lap when handling volatile materials, resulting with a spontaneous explosion within the ship. Simulation #63: Cat leaps onto the control panel of the ship while docked and starts the engines. Simulation #71: Cat jumps onto the control panel and presses the hyper drive button while we are directed facing a local star. Simulation #-" "Alright, alright, I get it...~" Laelynn signed, relenting to P.A.L's reasoning and allowing her arms to go lose to her sides. "Honestly, you probably made a good call there...good job P.A.L...~" Of course, while Laelynn did want a pet cat, her A.I. did have a point. Though it'd be different if she owned an actual house, it probably wasn't the best for anyone's health to have a cat in her ship, with the combined factors of space travel and her precise and often dangerous scientific experiments. Yet and still, a kitten would have been nice for Christmas...
