Blitz's business was quick, it seemed, before they could even start evacuating the base he returned, which made things far less complicated but also brought up concerns as to where the mysterious murderer had headed off to, given that the metal mage showed no sign of having been in a skirmish or anything similar. He was right, however, the sooner they left the base the less likely things were to go awry. The girl gave a little nod in response to him, taking a few steps forward in the direction from where they had come, which considering she was still grabbing onto Leo's arm prompted him to do the same. A few stumbles later, they were back in the main conjunction of the four hallways, in which Kara paused, first at the dead body and then glancing to the two passages that led to areas they had yet to discover.
"Do you think there might be others still alive?" she asked. Leo looked down the center corridor, as it quickly opened up to a moderately sized mess hall, and then another tunnel similar in curvature to the one they had just exited.
He pointed at it briefly. "Is that shorter than the one we just came from?" Kara nodded, in which he shook his head. "I'm sorry, it must have gotten to them first. I don't sense anything alive coming from it." Leo glanced over at Eris, who had a come to a similar conclusion and expressed it as such. The girl didn't have much of reaction, probably already shocked enough from the two corpses she had seen, and instead moved to the door they had opened with such difficulty earlier, merely touching it before it gave way. It was again down the long, nondescript hallway that they traveled, eventually making it to the airlock without incident.
Eris paused as she moved to open the second hatch of it, the first already pried open as a result of Blitz's previous handiwork. "Blitz, can you do the thing you did earlier on Kara?" she questioned, gesturing to her mouth and nose for a brief moment. With that, she opened up the exit, jogging her way back toward Blackjack, which, besides from having edged closer to the frozen side of the median zone, appeared untouched. Firing up the engines, she flew low, closer to the base, yet did not quite land, instead lowering the ramp for everyone else to embark.
The girl looked up at him for a moment, in which he nodded, boarding their ship. "I know someone who will keep you safe," Leo offered to her in an attempt to reassure, and although it didn't seem to have that much of an effect, she still took a seat with the briefest of smiles.
Blitz returned and rejoin with the group not long after he'd left - in truth, not being able to read the alien text had shortened the trip, as instead of pouring quickly over the information, he'd had to just dump it all into a drive and sprint back to rejoin the group. The option of destroying or wiping the server was still there, but both seemed rather pointless when the planet itself was going to do it for them in a few hours. Blitz followed them down the hallway to the point where it branched, the spot they'd gone through before, where they had initially heard the other intruder fighting their way through the base. Kara asked if anyone else was left, and Blitz leaned over and said quietly to Eris, so that Kara couldn't hear, "I don't know if the base is now just us and the other intruder, but there were more bodies of aliens when I went to check on the main servers. No one alive, as far as I saw." Thankfully, Leo could tell that nothing was living in the directions they hadn't gone yet, which saved some time.
They made their way back through the base, re-tracing their steps (and around the hole Blitz had burned in the hole from testing the acid gun out earlier) and to the airlock, opening the first valve before Leo asked him to do whatever it was he'd done before on Kara. "Sure, can do." Blitz said with a nod, as a faint barrier appeared around Blitz and Kara that seemed more like a soap bubble than a barrier, before they stepped outside into the harsh environment of the planet. Eris jogged ahead to get to the ship, but Blitz kept pace with Kara and Leo - didn't want to risk Kara slipping outside the bubble by accident. A moment or two later, Eris appeared with the ship, lowering the ramp so they could board, Blitz helping Leo and Kara up before leaping on himself, dropping the bubble once the ramp was closed and the ship pressurized, moving to take a seat as Leo reassured the young girl that she'd have a protector. "So, do we just report back now?" Blitz asked. "Normally I'd assume that to be the case, but given our new companion, waltzing in the front door might not be the best move."

Eris nodded at Blitz's words, though her expression was more or less that of indifference. Yes, it would have been useful to collect more than one of the Khonqrien, but it seemed like Kara had been one of the more information inclined individuals on the outpost, for as far as they could discern its primary purpose had been a bastion for translation and likely spying on signals that passed by.
As Kara took a seat Leo moved to the co-pilot's chair, brushing his hand against Eris's own for a brief moment, eliciting a similar breadth of a smile. "Should we trust fall or the weather?" she muttered in his ear as he sat down, though she simultaneously pulled up on Blackjack's controls, steering the ship into a gradual incline. He thought about her query for a moment before replying at a comparable decibel, understanding the code beneath it.
"Fall, certainly. The weather tends to have ulterior motives." She nodded in agreement, and as she did so did he turn back to Blitz and Kara, addressing the former's question. "We know many back ways into IMG, there's a particular woman at Headquarters that will be able to both vouch for us on behalf of the mission and give you protection," Leo stated, his gaze shifing over to Kara as he addressed her. "The translation should be easy enough to copy, we can do that while we're there and then send either the original or the copy to the Alliance. And you can take this back to the Magic Collective." Leo handed over the knife he had collected from one of the corpses to Blitz, handle first. While it was a tad bit disappointing that it would not be added to his collection, there were more important things to be concerned with. As they broke through Ignis Vorago's atmosphere and jetted out of the system, however, at least one was now off their mind.
Blitz sat down, glancing over with an eyebrow raised as Leo and Eris murmured something - no doubt more IMG secretive stuff, Blitz thought. If this was a TV show, this is the part would it would have cut to intermission, going 'Today's episode is brought to you by the letter 'Hush-Hush'.
After the whispering, however, they explained that they'd take Kara to someone they trusted, and deal with the translation once they were there, and they were even kind enough to hand Blitz the knife that Leo had gathered off one of the aliens. "I'm sure they'll be thrilled to have something to study," Blitz said, glancing at the knife before setting it carefully aside and gesturing with one of the blasters, "In addition to this thing. I'm not sure if magic was used in the process or not, but I'm fairly sure, even if there are chemicals or spells that could replicate the effect, that some of the ingredients in this acid don't have a name in the human language. No doubt they'll be over the nearest moon about that," he said with an expression that was both half-smile, half-sigh.
Blitz glanced at Kara. "I'm...debating how to break the news to the Magic Collective, though. Leftover weapons and armaments are one thing, but alien magic is something else they'd go nuts over." Blitz crossed his arms behind his head, closing his eyes. "I doubt they'd care too much....in theory. But once Kara's at IMG, have your friend make sure her presence there is kept appropriately quiet, though I'm sure that was the plan already - while I'm sure the Magic Collective's interest would be purely academic, I think some would go full fanboy mode if they had an inkling that IMG had a visitor."

"Though humanity's concept of magic confuses my people, I believe by your standards I am not a mage," Kara interjected in their conversation, though the more they spoke of her the antsier she seemed to get.
Unlike Blitz, Leo had a far different view on what would happen if Kara's whereabouts were revealed, one that was far less pleasant than the image the metal mage had painted, more aligned with his own life experiences. "Fanboy... is not the word I was thinking of, although I suppose that could be somebody's reaction. Regardless, yes, the utmost caution is necessary."
It was at that point that Eris turned her attention off of the viewport, no errors having popped up as they had shifted into warp drive. Her gaze passed over the girl, cold in an almost scientific matter, before she spoke. "Even if we obscure your facial features, your clothes are a dead giveaway that you're not from around here," Eris commented, departing the cockpit without any further explanation.
Kara looked between Leo and Blitz wide-eyed. "She's scary," the girl muttered, in which he chuckled.
"You're damn right she is, when she's not so keen on explanations. Eris is probably just getting you some clothes to change into, she has a point." Indeed, Kara's attire shimmered under the light, though he had paid little attention to it before the dress she wore with its greenish silver hue almost seemed to illuminate on its own, like the base's walls had done. Her boots were almost stranger, the black plating present on them seemed to swirl with blues and purples, though it was certainly only a trick of lighting. Soon enough did Eris return, presenting the girl with a pink sweatshirt and capris, well at least they would have fit as such on herself however Kara was a few inches shorter than her. The girl hesitantly accepted Eris's offering, looking around for a moment before Leo pointed at a door nearby. "Restroom," he stated, in which Kara quickly nodded, heading toward it. It would leave them without the girl's presence for a few minutes, which while he in particular thought there wasn't much else to be said, discourse could often be surprising.
While Blitz himself had been slightly curious, Kara clarified that she was not a mage, even by human standards, which were somehow different than alien standards. "Wouldn't the standard be the same, regardless of species?" Blitz asked, eyebrow raised. "I get that some who possess magic might not use it as their profession, more as a quality-of-life kind of thing, but by human standards, having magic to at least some degree means you're a mage."
Leo seemed to think of alternative motives when Blitz mentioned 'fanboy', but Blitz said nothing - he didn't disagree with the idea that some might have darker motives, but he'd neglected to imply as much (as much as he could, anyway) in front of Kara to avoid alarming her further - just going to a human colony was probably going to be concerning enough for her.
Eris looked the alien girl up and down, then decided she needed a change in garb, going off to collect something from the other end of the ship. Kara said she was scary, and Leo readily agreed. "I think that look was more in concern of what would occur if you didn't change your garb and someone noticed that you're not of human origins," Blitz said. "Or at least, that's my guess. If you want to confirm that in either direction, you'll have to ask Eris herself."
As Kara went off to the restroom to change into the clothes that Eris brought her, Blitz waited and listened for the sound of the restroom door closing before saying, "Not sure if you picked up on it, Leo, but I used the term 'fanboy' both in hopes of the extent of the Magic Collective's intent, and so it wouldn't startle Kara any further than she already is. Probably better if she's not made aware just how much attention she'd get in society at large." Blitz said.

"I... um, I'm not quite sure. Your society is very magic-dependent... ours is not the same and neither are we," Kara spoke, gesturing her hands in motions that seemed to portray confusion more than anything, as if she wasn't sure how to explain or even what she was really speaking of. It made sense, likely her only real knowledge on humanity was the Fioran language and whatever she had picked up from the texts she had been deciphering, considering that the girl had asked if they were human as a gut reaction. It was not a question one especially versed in the culture of Earthland, and by extent the magic of the planet, would ask, after all. Still, what could be the difference, Leo was intrigued by the subject. Humanity claimed many sources to their own: curses, studious undertakings, quote-on-quote gods, but by far the most common line of inheritance was just that, a child's parent or parents happened to be gifted in the art and they received a similar power. Khix'eks's display at the gala was likened to magic, but perhaps, in the end, it was something else altogether.
Indeed, it was unfortunate that she did not know much on the subject, but eventually they would stumble upon someone who did, he was content with waiting until that time. Considering the ship wasn't that big, however, at Blitz's commentary did Eris stroll back into the room, eyebrows raised at both him and Leo for a second before she shook her head with a grin. "Obviously," was all she offered as she handed the attire she had procured off to Kara, before taking a seat.
Leo was about to say something in response to Blitz's observation on his words, but held his tongue as Eris interjected. "It's better for her to know the truth and take precaution then be fed a lie and end up dead, or worse. Not that she doesn't already know it, it's fairly obvious that when you appear different from everyone else you're going to attract all the wrong sorts of attention." His thumb jutted toward her in agreement, of course she had the more personal experience with that sort of ridicule compared to him and could therefore speak with more sincere sentiments, although considering it was Eris her voice lacked most of the emotion that would have been present had she been truly honest.
From what Kara explained she wasn't a mage, but she knew enough to be able to tell that their magic, compared to human magic, was fundamentally different, and their society, as a result, didn't revolve around it the same way human society did. Though Blitz himself, being both a mage and part of the Magic Collective, likely wasn't in the best position to argue that point, given the circumstances. "I'm curious what role magic plays in your society that differs it so from our own," Blitz said, curious. "For humans, it's another resources, and is used accordingly - medicine, military, quality-of-life improvements, the whole spectrum has magical assistance lent to it at some point."I wonder if their word for magic even has an English translation, Blitz wondered.
Eris returned shortly with proper attire for Kara to conceal her nature, merely commenting that Blitz's guess had been on the mark. "See?" Blitz said with a slight chuckle.
At Blitz's remark on the 'fanboy' comment - regarding Kara and knowledge of her presence being known - Blitz's eyebrows furrowed. "She's not so naive that she doesn't realize the threat to her person just for not being human, but there's a difference between knowing that in her head and having it dangled in front of her. If you'd mentioned the degree to which it could go back in the outpost, she might have only boarded the ship because the base was going under," Blitz said pointedly. "And she knows she's going to be very different in the place she's going to - heck, I got a considerable amount of attention for being 'different' just for having a metal arm and a talking hat, and I know you two have some stories to tell on that as well, so maybe try to inform her in a way that doesn't cause undue stress, alright?" Blitz said, his voice edging on the emotion that Eris' hadn't. After a moment, Blitz sighed. "Her chances of having a quiet, happy life given the current society regarding aliens are slim, and she should, on some level, be aware of that for her own safety, but....doesn't mean she needs to see the math on paper." Blitz said quietly, glancing out the window.

The girl merely shrugged, obviously confused by his question. Or perhaps she was only feigning ignorance as she didn't want to tell the truth, but of course people weren't warranted to know everything about their own culture, if magic was obscure among the Khonqrien then it was likely she really didn't know anything, especially given her apparent specialization in the Fioran language. Regardless, it was too soon to attempt any proper questioning, not if they wanted to remain amiable to her. They hadn't done enough, Kara's visage was still plastered with a childlish fear only masked by an attempt at bravery. All would come in time though, like a wave gently lapping at the coast, reshaping in the most minute fashions to its will.
At Blitz's insistence Eris let out a brief huff, shaking her head. "Certainly, though perhaps you should be the one then...." she trailed off, glancing over at Leo who rolled his eyes for a moment, before nodding. Even so, before they could deliberate what would be said, although he already knew the words he would produce, or at least an approximation of them, Kara walked back into the cockpit, the sound of her steps barely reverberating. She wore the clothes Eris had handed her, although as suspected they hug a bit baggy from her figure - luckily more like an odd fashion statement than anything. It was not what Leo's eyes were drawn to first, however, that award belonged to the pigmentation of her skin, where it had once been a green almost translucent now was a pale peach with strong jaded undertones, her features smoothed and ears having taken on a less jagged form, almost elvish in nature and certainly at a glance appearing as so.
Kara cleared her throat as her eyes widened, likely a result of both Leo and Eris staring at her, perplexed. "Well, um, my commander told me I'd be killed on sight if a human saw me... which, um, hasn't been proven yet...." she muttered. "I... uh... this is the closest thing I can do that could be called your magic, although it is only a biological trait of my species." Indeed, her disguise was far from complete, still no hair adorned her scalp nor any other place on her body, and her eyes still held an alien quality to them, although their sheen played a trick in the light of appearing more obscured.
Eris tapped her chin a few times, before smiling. "That's wonderful. Here, I can draw some eyebrows on your face, in case anyone gives you a second glance." Kara yet again seemed perplexed, but did not argue as Eris retrieved a pencil and brush, glancing over at the navicomputer for a moment to check their route before beginning her work on the girl's visage.
Eris let out a huff, suggesting Blitz should be the one to make the call if he was that confident about it. Blitz merely laughed. "That's not a decision I should be making. My current outfit got looks even a thousand years ago, so fashion for blending in wasn't exactly my thing. Kinda hard to blend in with a metal arm," Blitz pointed out with a slight grin. Normally, Shoop would comment on something like that, but given that he was part of Blitz's 'fashion sense', so to speak, he wisely kept his mouth shut for once.
Kara went off with the clothes in hand, and returned looking much different - and not just in attire, her skin had changed colors and her semi-jagged features had rounded themselves out somewhat - she looked more like a slightly off-color elf than an alien. "As someone who transforms for a living, I gotta say, that's....an impressive level of detail in your transformation." Blitz said after a moment.
Blitz watched as Eris added some eyebrows to the girl, as the changes she replicated had altered her skin and structure, but apparently couldn't go as far as growing hair. Eyebrows missing do stand out, even if most people don't really catch on to why someone's appearance seems off before they notice it. In this case, given what might occur if she's discovered, it's better not to take chances.
Blitz sighed and leaned back in his seat, clasping both hands behind his head. "While not all humans are the kind that would attack you on sight - after all, we didn't - I can't exactly blame your commander for making that call. Thanks to what happened at the Gala, humanity's first impression of your race wasn't exactly well-received. Speaking of, did your commander mention that at all?" Blitz asked. "Was the guy who crashed the Gala just a rogue with his own beliefs, or was he expressing the opinions of the Khonqrien as a whole?"
