Due to the advanced technological age in which Brave Galaxy's events take place, we have compiled a list of technologies that exist across The Galaxy. Due to the nature of this thread, the items are explained in terms of technology which exist in our world, and expanded on, where needed.
Communication: Long range communication comes in many forms, however the scope of these communications is mostly limited to the planet's surface, for devices which are not hard-lined (or remotely patched) into a long-range broadcast system. The following forms of communication are common across The Galaxy:
Computers: In The Galaxy, computers have advanced far beyond what we are used to, today. While not all computers are sufficiently advanced to have all these features, the following technologies are common enough that anyone might have them:
The Ether-Net: The Ether-Net goes by many names. Most commonly, it is referred to as "The Net", the Ether-Net is an inter-planetary repository of user-submitted information used by most people throughout The Galaxy. While many people only interface with the Ether-Net via consoles and personal communication devices, Net-Diving is the act of using modified virtual reality gear to enter the Ether-Net. Net-Diving allows for a greater amount of control or freedom when interacting with the information found in the net by essentially immersing their minds in the information. It allows the user to actively search through the Net, as opposed to interacting with it via search engines and other sites. Net-Divers often refer to this act as "Diving into the Ether," as entering the Ether-Net essentially divorces their mind from their body until they "surface." Because of this, Net-Diving is considered a fairly dangerous pursuit, as it often leaves Net-Divers defenseless in the real world. There are several repositories of information and entertainment within the Ether-Net, including the following popular sites:
Games can also be found online, from various sources, allowing both traditional and VR experiences, depending on the user's preference. Starships: Starships are a common possession among those who frequently travel between planets. That being said, many terrestrial-based citizens don't bother with them, due to the expenses that often come with storing and maintaining an interplanetary vessel. In that respect, spaceships are often viewed the same way that cars are, in our world: they are a common possession, but there are those who either can't afford or don't have need for one. Likewise, while it is not uncommon for people to be capable of repairing their own ship, it is much more common for people to bring their ships to mechanics for any major repairs or modifications, especially when it concerns the ship's warp drive, a special engine design which allows faster-than-light travel [see Long-Range Travel]. Many starships are meant for only a single passenger, often including an area where the pilot can relax during extended Navi-Computer "auto-pilot" trips. While this is the most popular option, many people choose larger ships, some even large enough to act as a mobile apartment. Those in the latter category could, ostensibly, spend most of their life amongst the stars, only needed to dock on planets or space stations for supplies and repairs. Starships have an incredibly long life expectancy, due to the rigorous, life-or-death conditions they are designed for. While some people have sleek starships that were manufactured fairly recently, there are just as many who pilot ships that are even older than themselves, prone to mechanical glitches, shutdowns and failing parts, but much easier to perform maintenance on, due to the over-reliance on computer systems in newer ships. Long-Range Travel: Early travel throughout The Galaxy was difficult, due to the massive distances between solar systems and even different planetary bodies within the same solar system. This was eventually alleviated with the construction of Warp Rings, massive devices which acted as a sort of inter-stellar on-ramp to the superhighway that is Faster-Than-Light (FTL) travel. While this served the people of The Galaxy well, for many years, many people found Warp Rings inconvenient, and, over time, managed to miniaturize the technology, incorporating it into a starship engine design referred to as a "warp drive." Many small starships, however, forgo warp drives, in favor of additional maneuverability. However, due to the complex nature of FTL travel, every starship featuring a warp drive is equipped with a highly advanced "Navi-Computer" which calculates trajectories for long-range travel, including those for FTL travel, and takes control of the ship for the duration of the flight. Of course, the Navi-Computer is not equipped for rapid course correction, and in the case of space debris, asteroids, combat, take-off, and landing, a pilot is required for safe maneuvering. Land Vehicles: While on a planet's surface, many people own vehicles specifically designed for terrestrial travel. A number of varieties exist, mostly owing to personal preference. It is not uncommon for motorcycles and cars to be seen alongside more advanced vehicles, which use modified thrusters to hover over roadways. Though many travelers seem to prefer single-seater vehicles, to account for their limited on-ship storage space, it is not entirely uncommon for locals to have vehicles designed for multiple passengers. While some residents of the galaxy have deigned to adopt motorized vehicles, it is still fairly common for residents of smaller communities to still rely on horses and other similar beasts of burden as a form of transport. Robots: While cybernetics have existed for over 1000 years, it has only been since the exodus from Earthland that a fully robotic being has been mass-produced, in a variety of styles, ranging from bipedal humanoids to floating orbs and even mechanized pet companions. Since then, robots have become a common sight across The Galaxy, with various levels of autonomy. Some of these robots contain AI systems, allowing the robot to have a personality and opinions of their own. Meanwhile, many others are simply tools designed to complete simple tasks and responding to simple commands from "users," with the approximate accuracy of today's virtual assistants, though able to comprehend a larger range of commands. |

Brave Galaxy is set in a world loosely based on Hiro Mashima’s Fairy Tail and Eden’s Zero. It is a PG-13 or so rated space fantasy RP, and uses a combination of character statistics, which can be acquired via roleplaying and events, and creative freedom to help direct players’ characters. While there is a main storyline, which can be found in the events section, characters are free to interact with others and their environment however they see fit.
